They’ll be donning a cap and gown next spring, but on Nov. 14, the focus was on blouses, blazers and tailored dresses for a group of Georgetown University students who received a private shopping spree at the Ann Taylor-owned Loft in Georgetown.

The store closed its doors early and flew in more than a dozen company stylists to help 79 graduating seniors in the Georgetown Scholarship Program find professional attire for upcoming interviews and jobs. The entire store was discounted 40 percent, and each student received a $250 gift card to build their workplace wardrobes.

Many of the students in the Georgetown Scholarship Program are the first in their families to attend college. This is the fourth year the program has partnered with Loft. The event began informally six years ago when a group of mentors took graduating seniors to the Loft store in Dupont Circle to help them shop for business suits. Loft executives got wind of the shopping trip and decided to make it an annual event.

“Ninety-seven percent of the students in our program graduate from college, and the Loft event is a really nice capstone to their college experience,” said Melissa Foy, director of the Georgetown Scholarship Program.
