The Graduate is for Georgetown seniors who identify as first-generation (first in their family to attend college) and/or low-income (FGLI) students. Team-taught by some of Georgetown’s best professors, students in the course examine and reflect on their transition into life after college. The course integrates financial literacy, career discernment, and relationship-building.
Like our course, Mastering the Hidden Curriculum (MHC), at the end of the course, students leave with a toolkit to navigate post-graduate challenges they may face.
The Graduate was launched as a University-Wide Cross-Disciplinary (UNXD) course in Spring 2025. The course was developed over the course of the 2023–2024 academic year in partnership with the Red House. The team conducted focus groups with 68 GSP alumni, volunteers/mentors, faculty, and staff. The focus group findings were used to create an initial syllabus, which was then further developed in collaboration with the course’s teaching team.
