To our beloved students,
From our 160+ incoming first years, to our 170+ graduation last year/last semester students, we want to say how excited we are to have you back on campus to start a fresh new school year! Recently, we’ve been reflecting on the words of former first lady, Michelle Obama in her video to first generation students. We feel that her advice rings true to the advice we’d like to give to you, so here are our reflections:
1. Don’t ever doubt that you deserve to be [here]
The admissions committee chose YOU! Missy, our director, got her start working in the Georgetown Admissions Office. She can tell you, they DON’T make mistakes! Your application went through many rounds of people fighting for you to be here.
2. Don’t be afraid to try new things
Your time at Georgetown is the time to try, fail, and discover what you love! Don’t hold back!
3. Whatever you do, don’t try to do this alone
We, the GSP staff and community are here for you every step of the way. You should have already been connected with a GSP peer mentor, and don’t ever be afraid to seek out deans, counselors, tutors, resident assistants and ask for help when you need it. Many people have the misconception that only the weak ask for help, but smartest and most successful folks will tell you that asking for help and guidance is the key to success.
4. Never forget there are so many people who believe in you
GSP is here for you! We also have a network of over 1,000 alumni, volunteers & donors who believe in you! We are cheering you on every step of the way!
