Mission Statement

The Georgetown Scholarship Program (GSP) consists of alumni, parents, and friends of Georgetown University committed to the University policy of meeting the full financial need of all qualified students. By providing enhanced financial aid packages to undergraduate students through increased grants and reduced loans, the program enables Georgetown to offer an education to students regardless of their socioeconomic status and to compete on equal terms with peer institutions for the best and brightest students.

With its Catholic, Jesuit orientation of educating leaders for all of society by admitting talented students from all parts of society, Georgetown does not include an applicant's ability to pay for college as a criterion for admission. The University, moreover, promises to meet whatever financial need each eligible student demonstrates. Such a policy enables Georgetown to attract and retain the most talented students, foster a pluralistic student body, maintain affordability for all, and ensure access for those who could not meet college costs on their own.

The aim of the GSP is to provide a constant stream of annual revenue which, together with financial aid endowment, will enable Georgetown to fully fund scholarship support. At the same time, this will help Georgetown increase its efforts to compete for the most qualified students from all income levels by providing more attractive financial aid packages that include larger scholarships and smaller loans.

To strengthen Georgetown's ability to respond to the demonstrated need of its students, and to limit the amount of financial aid funded by income from annual revenue that is also needed to operate the academic program, Georgetown has made increasing both current and endowed support for student financial aid a top priority in its upcoming capital campaign. A generous infusion of private support is essential to sustaining the opportunity for a Georgetown education for all qualified students.

Thank you for your consideration of becoming a member of the Georgetown Scholarship Program. Such generosity will enable the University to respond vigorously to the demonstrated financial needs of all talented students positioned for leadership in professions throughout the world.
