Event Reports Reception hosted by Kathleen (N'83) and Alan Leahey (C'82, M'87) (Pennsylvania, July 2006)

Dr. Alan Leahey (C'82, M'87) and his wife Kathy (N'83) hosted a gathering of alumni, parents and friends from the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania in support of the Georgetown Scholarship Program. The event included golf on Friday and Saturday morning and featured a dinner party hosted by the Leahey's at their home on Friday evening. Approximately 25 persons attended.

Dean Deacon represented Georgetown and addressed those present about the Georgetown Scholarship program and its impact on our ability to keep the playing field level for students from all family incomes. There was discussion about the importance of this effort both to enhance the diversity of the student body and also to help us compete effectively with our peer institutions for the best of these students. A number of those present were members of various Alumni Admissions committees including three chairs, Alan Leahey, Tom Elliott, and Joe O’Brien who reinforced the competitive aspect of the GSP through their experience in trying to recruit the best students from their geographical regions. Alan Leahey is also the GSP class chair for ’82. Also in attendance was Greg Kelly, GSP co-chair for ’83 and his wife Lorrain (C’83). The University is grateful to Dr. and Mrs. Leahey for their generosity in hosting this very successful event
